The heat of the Intramurals 2022 had just started to warm up with the recently concluded Sports Clinic: Seminar Workshop last Friday, September 9, 2022. Attended by Senior Highschool Students, the one-day workshop aims to teach game officiating and sports management while improving sportsmanship and integrity among students.
The event covered games officiating for two of the most renowned sports in the country: volleyball and basketball, for Grade 11 and 12 respectively.
Speakers have also been invited to add fuel to the student’s schema. One of them is Mr. Christopher Lamoca, a PE teacher at the National University and a former MAPEH teacher from OLPS, who tackled the history and rules of basketball.
Another noteworthy speaker is Mr. John Paulo De Borja, the High School Basketball coach of Siena College, who briefed the students on the table and court officiating. The sound of his long whistle challenged the discipline and reaction time of the participants, which was countered by their body form along with a shout of “Defense!”
Hand signals, whistle types, and scoresheet management taught in the morning session were executed in the afternoon. Mr. Jusferr Paulo Tigas, a coach from the Elementary Siena College Basketball Team, facilitated the application of the sports management seminar played off during the basketball game.
On the other hand, Ms. Christine Boticial, a Grade 11 PE teacher, managed the volleyball game and sports officiating of the Grade 11 Students.
Two years of pandemic limited social events. This year’s seminar-workshop was a leap in partial fulfillment of DepEd’s performance standard in Physical Education for SHS Students.
